Real players and flagged servers
Most of Counter-Strike 1.6’s and CS2’s server lists fake their numbers: bots named like people, rosters copied from other servers, crowds that never move. LobbyVerse asks every server for its player list, compares it with what the server claims and with Steam’s own count, and watches over time.
A server’s status says where it stands:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
listed |
Checked, and its players look real. Lists, rankings and counts include it |
pending |
Not checked yet: new, or rechecked after a flag lifted |
flagged |
Its numbers look fake. It’s left out of lists, rankings and every count |
/v1/servers returns listed servers. Add status=flagged to list the flagged ones instead. Each flagged server’s flagged_reasons (on /v1/servers/{address}) say why:
| Reason | Meaning |
|---|---|
impossible_slots |
More slots than the game allows, or more players than slots |
future_version |
CS2 only: a version newer than Steam’s own |
missing_names |
Claims a crowd but lists far fewer named players, twice in a row |
frozen_roster |
The same players “connected” for over a day: fake clients that never leave |
name_pool |
Its player names were on other servers elsewhere at the same moment |
flat_crowd |
A crowd that hasn’t moved in a day, with too few different players |
steam_sees_nobody |
Claims 10+ players while Steam’s own list counts none |
nameless_players |
Claims players but its player list is empty |
silent_crowd |
Claims players but its player list never answers |
shared_roster |
The same players as another server on its IP at the same moment |
farm_ip |
Its IP runs mostly fake servers |
Flags lift on their own when the evidence goes. An owner who thinks theirs is wrong can ask for a review from their server’s page.
