Rate limits
Each key may make 60 requests a minute and 10,000 a day (days are UTC). Every answer says where you stand:
| Header | Meaning |
|---|---|
RateLimit-Limit |
The limit nearest to running out: 60 a minute, or 10,000 a day near the end of a busy day |
RateLimit-Remaining |
Requests left in that window |
RateLimit-Reset |
Seconds until it resets |
Past a limit you get 429 Too Many Requests with Retry-After in seconds. Wait that long, then carry on.
Staying under them
Section titled “Staying under them”- Cache. Numbers change every few minutes at most, and every answer can be cached for a minute (see Caching). A bot answering many people should ask once and share the answer.
- Ask for more at once. One
per_page=100request beats a hundred single lookups. - Don’t spread requests over several keys or accounts to get past the limits; it’s against the terms.
